According to the newspaper The Information, Facebook could be working on a smartwatch that will have health tracking, messaging and fitness functions.
One of the main features of the Facebook clock will be messaging . The social network owns three of the largest messaging platforms on the market (WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, Instagram), and it seems that the wearable will have a deep integration with those services.
The Facebook watch will also focus on health and fitness. The Information claims that the watch will integrate with some of today’s most popular services, such as Peloton Interactive.
Apparently, the watch will arrive with an open source version of Android, but according to the report, Facebook is working on its own operating system that could appear in 2023 in a second-generation version of the watch.
The problem Facebook may face is consumer trust . We can imagine the reaction a Facebook smartwatch would produce that tracks consumer health data and puts that data in the hands of a company that has a terrible track record when it comes to protecting privacy.
