The virtual reality race has more and more companies inside. While Facebook surprised in 2020 with Oculus Quest 2 and Sony temporarily unchecked with the development of PSVR 2, Apple has decided to jump on the bandwagon. The company from the bitten apple is designing and developing a new VR headset with Augmented Reality functions, but we won’t see it for sale until 2022, and it won’t be cheap.
Apple VR headset issues
From Bloomberg, they report that the company would be having problems with the development of the headset. The purpose of this device is to act as a VR device, serving to play games, consume video content or even communicate. However, they also want to implement AR functions to project information onto the real world. They want it to be a premium and niche product, above the mainstream, and that is going to translate into a price that can range between $ 300 and $ 900.
Some sources suggest that they want to give it a touch of maximum exclusivity, limiting unit sales to one per day and per store, which would limit its performance to sales of 180,000 VR glasses per year. They would be using cutting-edge technology to shape the N301, the code name of the current prototype, using their most modern processors and even a fan, which would be accompanied by prescription lenses to be embedded in the device for people with poor eyesight.
An initiative that would be bringing complications to Apple, among other things, due to the different international regulations regarding the latter. Likewise, the pandemic situation would be complicating the advance of the prototype, so there would still be enough left until it becomes a reality. Apple wants to launch into the VR field with a separate device similar to Facebook’s Oculus Quest. Will it be able to settle down successfully?
