Apple, which was frequently brought up with the Batterygate case, is now on the agenda with the penalty given by the Italian Competition Authority. As you know, Apple generally carries out its advertising campaigns with the videos it has published on YouTube. Emphasizing the remarkable features of the new iPhone models with the advertisements it has published, Apple has been punished for some misleading statements. In this part, Apple was fined a total of $ 12 million (10 million euros) for its waterproof claims.
In the decision taken by the Italian Competition Authority, it is stated that the company does not provide enough information to users in advertisements about the waterproof feature of iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone XR, iPhone Xs, iPhone XS Max, iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max models.
Apple Waterproof Claims:
In these advertisements, Apple claims that the phones can last up to 30 minutes in water at depths of 1 to 4 meters, depending on their model. However, the Italian Competition Authority states that the water-resistance feature in advertisements is only valid in laboratory tests with static and pure water.
Stating that this is not realistic under normal conditions of use, the Italian Competition Authority points out that this situation is not clearly stated in the promotional advertisements.
Apart from that, the Italian Competition Authority does not find it right that iPhone models damaged by Apple’s liquid contact are not covered by warranty.
