Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, an animated film released in 2018, was a total success for fans, at the box office and critics. He even managed to win the Oscar for best animated film.
Sony did not miss the opportunity and decided to announce the direct sequel for 2022, under the direction of Joaquim Dos Santos. However, two other directors, Kemp Powers and Justin K. Thompson were confirmed today.
The first film also had the participation of 3 directors, but curiously none of them will return for this sequel. Dos Santos, who worked directing series like Avatar: The Last Airbender and Korra, had already been confirmed.
Kemp Powers was the co-director and co-writer of the hit pixar film Soul, while Thompson was involved in the first animated film of the arachnid in design production.
In a joint statement by the 3 directors, they mentioned that, “The team behind Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse set a very high bar, and we are honored to take up the challenge.”
There are some rumors about the appearance of other versions of the arachnid, among them the most popular is that of Miguel O’Hara. Given the post-credits scene of the film, the direct participation of the Spidey from Earth 928 is speculated in the sequel to the Miles Morales story.
