The new Mortal Kombat movie will no longer arrive on April 16. This was confirmed by Warner Bros. to the well-known Polygon portal .
Now the film will be released on April 23. And as you know, it will reach both theaters and the streaming service HBO Max. HBO Max users will not need to make an extra payment to enjoy the movie.
The film has been directed by Simon McQuoid. This will be the first large production in which the filmmaker has been involved. The script is written by Greg Russo, who is also working on the Resident Evil movie reboot.
It will be an R-rated tape
For this new film, it was decided from the outset to opt for an R rating in order to recreate the most iconic fatalities of the franchise.
Thanks to the first trailer released in February. We know that several classic Mortal Kombat characters will appear such as Sub-Zero, Sonya Blade, Jax, Kung Lao, Raiden, Liu Kang, Kabal, Mileena, and Shang Tsung .
Also, an original character named Cole Young will be introduced, who will end up meeting the characters from the series to join the legendary tournament known as “Mortal Kombat.”
There was a lot of criticism surrounding the inclusion of this character because in the film we will not see Johnny Cage, one of the most iconic fighters in the series.
According to the director, it was decided not to include the character because it could steal all the limelight, but they have not ruled it out for a future sequel.
