Now that it seems that the relationship between cinema and video games is booming, news about possible adaptations of games to the big screen are happening, for the enjoyment of fans. In case you don’t remember, an animated Super Mario movie will be released in 2022, with Shigeru Miyamoto as producer. Now, Nintendo has hinted that animated films from other sagas could arrive in the future.
In a Fast Company interview with the president of Nintendo, Shuntaro Furukawa, the Japanese commented that the Big N is exploring the possibility of creating more animated films, beyond the Super Mario saga. “Animation, in general, is something we are investigating, and not just for this [Super Mario] franchise.” What other Nintendo franchises could we see adapted to animated cinema?
Beyond fantasies, Nintendo seems to have been wanting to expand its sagas in recent years . Remember, for example, that years ago we learned about a supposed Netflix project about a live action series of The Legend of Zelda, although that was never officially confirmed and was labeled as incorrect information. Of course, that failure seems to have made another Star Fox series fail.
Although in an animated film, Brie Larson’s wish could not come true. The actress stated a few months ago that if a Metroid movie were made she would want to play Samus Aran. Be that as it may, and beyond this curiosity, it is not the first time that Nintendo has dropped that more audiovisual projects are coming, so everything indicates that we will actually see more movies or series of its sagas.
We’ll see how the new Mario movie, made by the creators of The Minions, works. Miyamoto told a year ago how that relationship was created and how this feature film became a reality.
