The Chinese manufacturer Xpeng has lifted the veil on its second electric model, the Xpeng P7. If this sedan comes to walk on the aesthetic flower beds of the Tesla Model S, its price, however, seeks to shade Model 3.
The manufacturer Tesla has there to worry about being on the most important market of electric vehicles, China. If the firm of Elon Musk now has a solid base through its Gigafactory 3 based in Shanghai, several manufacturers in the country also plan to take one of the shares of the juicy cake. Like Xpeng, whose freshly presented Xpeng P7 electric sedan has great ambitions.
MORE THAN DECENT AUTONOMY
Inducted in an official press release, the automobile with flush handles and slender optics does not fail to remind the Tesla Model S in its style and size. However, it is the Model 3 that the Xpeng P7 will tickle with regard to its definitely competitive price list. But before talking about the figures for each, let’s try to present in more detail the innards of the vehicle.
The manufacturer’s second model – after the G3 SUV – has advantages to assert: its autonomy, in the first place, is close to 706 km according to the NEDC cycle. For comparison, that of the Model 3 reaches 668 km (still according to the NEDC cycle). On this point, the American has her hair done at the post. Please note, however: the NEDC certification standard is obsolete in the automotive sector today, in favor of the WLTP cycle, whose calculation processes better reflect reality.
LESS RAPID ACCELERATION
Also, the Xpeng P7 boasts of shooting 0 to 100 km / h in the space of 4.3 seconds, compared to 3.4 seconds for the Performance version of the Model 3. Its fast charge allows it to go from 30 to 80% in the space of 28 minutes. Add to that a panoramic glass roof, a two-in-one interior screen as digital instrumentation and infotainment system.
The firm of the Middle Empire also highlights the autonomous functionality of its vehicle, which would reach level three, on a scale of five. To do this, the engineers used the Nvidia Drive AGX processor based on the Xavier SoC, supported by twelve ultrasonic sensors, five millimeter wave radars and fourteen cameras. A system that makes people cringe on the side of the United States, Xpeng being accused by Tesla of having stolen technological secrets related to autopilot .
10,000 EUROS CHEAPER THAN THE MODEL 3
Available in three versions, the Xpeng P7 is logically entitled to three separate prices: the basic version (Propulsion, 568 km of autonomy) will tear at 229,900 yuan, or about 29,900 euros. According to the Chinese Tesla configurator , the Model 3 starts at 303,550 (39,500 euros), marking here a notable difference of 10,000 euros between the two models.
The long range variant (706 km) tutoie the 254,900 yuan, or about 33,200 euros, when the four-wheel drive version (from 0 to 100 km / h in 4.3 seconds) is sold from 339,900 yuan, or about 44,250 euros. Deliveries will begin at the end of June 2020.
