The future of agriculture may change significantly with the arrival of vehicles like the Steyr Konzept, the hybrid tractor.
A priori the world of tractors does not seem excessively exciting, but from time to time a creation such as the Steyr Konzept appears, which attracts attention both for its design, halfway between a sports car and a futuristic spaceship, and because it is a hybrid tractor.
Let’s start with this, since its configuration is quite interesting. It uses a main diesel engine, a 2.5-liter block that acts as a generator and is responsible for supplying power to each of the four independent electric motors that are housed in each of the wheels. Between the four they develop a joint power of 250 kW, that is, 335 hp.
This allows it to operate as a hybrid (in which case it saves 10% fuel compared to a conventional diesel tractor) or as a 100% electric model when the battery is fully charged. To this end, the Konzept has systems such as energy recovery that, for example, accumulates electricity when facing downhill slopes.
Another advantage of the configuration it uses is that each of the electric motors can operate independently, which makes the control over the all-wheel drive much greater, achieving a much more precise behavior of the vehicle.
Finally, it is impossible not to mention the image of the Steyr Konzept, which we could describe as a “hyper sports tractor”. The incisive front light clusters, the large air intakes on the front or the design of the wheels give it a really muscular look that makes it impossible not to notice it.
